Customizing football cleats became a trend in the NFL during the 2014-15 season. Players from all over the league took the field each and every Sunday in a pair of air brushed or graphic painted cleats that were one-of-ones.
The trend became widely popular among the players in the league this season that Nike had to put a stop to the customization of cleats and threaten its athletes with losing their endorsement deals. Not many players were happy with this, but took their chances on the football field after Nike’s threats. Soles By Sir, responsible for most of the custom cleats seen on the field this season, became the go to person for the custom jobs around the league. The Miami shoe customizer gained lots of publicity from the NFL and its players for his bizarre twist on football silhouettes and can be credited for brining the flashy footwear to the NFL.
